ATHENS, Greece – An unusual encounter unfolded recently off the coast of Atokos island in the Ionian Sea, where two women enjoying a snorkeling session found themselves in close proximity to a wild boar swimming in the clear blue waters. The incident, captured on video, shows the animal approaching the swimmers, who reacted with visible surprise and concern. The footage, initially shared by @aleks_jevtic and widely circulated by media outlets including RTL102.5, depicts the boar swimming steadily in the open water. While some viewers debated whether the animal was actively 'chasing' the women or merely swimming past, the unexpected presence of a land animal in a marine environment created a moment of tension for the snorkelers. Wildlife experts note that while wild boars are strong swimmers and can occasionally be seen in coastal areas, their presence in open sea near swimmers is uncommon. The women were able to safely move away from the animal, and no injuries were reported. The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters, even in seemingly tranquil settings.
