Croatia's New Price Comparison App Aims to Tame Inflation
Croatia Launches Price Comparison App Amidst Economic Uncertainty Zagreb, Croatia – In a move to address rising consumer concerns about price fluctuations, the Croatian government has launched a new mobile application designed to help citizens compare prices across different retailers. The initiative comes after months of criticism leveled at Economy Minister Ante Šušnjar. "When I suggested people bake their own bread, I was called Marie Antoinette," Šušnjar stated in a recent interview with RTL Direkt. "When I advocated for boycotting certain stores, I was criticized for overstepping my authority. Now, we see that some things are indeed changing." The app, which allows users to compare prices of various goods, has already revealed startling discrepancies. In some cases, the price difference between the highest and lowest-priced items reached 100%. The government hopes the app will promote greater transparency and encourage competition among retailers. To stabilize prices, the government has also anchored prices to those of May 2nd. Šušnjar expressed his hope that the app will be widely adopted, stating, "I've already used it, and I will continue to use it in the future because it provides a very good overview of the price situation in our markets." The government's efforts to address price volatility and enhance consumer protection represent a significant step in stabilizing the Croatian economy.
