Bolivia Flour Shortage: Road Blockades Cripple Bread Production
La Paz, Bolivia – Road blockades across Bolivia are causing a significant shortage of flour, disrupting the production of the staple food, "pan de batalla." The Departmental Federation of Panificadores is sounding the alarm, warning of potential food insecurity and economic hardship for bakers. \"The government must take immediate action against these blockades,\" stated Rubén Ríos, a representative from the Federation. Ríos highlighted that the blockades have prevented the delivery of essential flour supplies, impacting thousands of bakers and their families. The Federation has held meetings with commercial management, but the situation remains critical. More than 20 trucks carrying flour are currently stranded due to the blockades, resulting in a daily deficit of 3,000 quintals of flour. The video footage shows bakers struggling to maintain production with limited supplies, underscoring the urgency of the situation. The hope is for a swift resolution to the blockades to prevent further disruptions to the food supply and price increases.
