Spain to Improve Hospital and Nursing Home Food Quality
Spain's Ministry of Consumption is working on a decree to improve the quality of food served in hospitals and nursing homes. The initiative aims to increase the proportion of fruits, vegetables, and fish in patient meals. This follows concerns raised by patients and associations about the current nutritional value of the food provided. One patient interviewed stated, "The food is often too sugary and processed, not at all healthy." A spokesperson for the Ministry emphasized the importance of providing healthy and nutritious food to patients, particularly those recovering from surgery or illness. The decree could mandate the daily provision of fresh fruit and vegetables, and fish one to three times a week. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to ensuring a healthy and dignified diet for all patients in Spanish healthcare facilities. The changes are expected to significantly improve the well-being of patients and enhance their recovery process.
