MEXICO CITY – In a touching display of cultural tradition and heartfelt remembrance, Saul Diaz, a content creator, recently shared his meticulously prepared Day of the Dead altar dedicated to his late pet, Nancy. The video, which has garnered significant attention online, features Diaz explaining the significance of the "altar de muertos" tradition, particularly its observance for pets on October 27th. "The Day of the Dead altar is one of our most important traditions and one of my favorites," Diaz stated in his video, emphasizing the belief that souls visit these altars from October 28th to November 2nd, with pets arriving on the 27th. The altar, a vibrant tapestry of colors and offerings, included a framed photograph of Nancy, surrounded by traditional elements such as bright marigold flowers and lit candles, which are believed to guide spirits home with their scent and light. Diaz also highlighted the personal touches, noting, "We make sure to put their favorite things." For Nancy, this meant a selection of beloved foods: traditional Mexican sweet bread, pepperoni pizza, popcorn for movie nights, and peanuts, which she reportedly enjoyed with Diaz's father. This act of remembrance underscores the deep bond between humans and their animal companions, extending the sacred tradition to include cherished pets. The video serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of honoring and remembering those who brought joy into our lives, regardless of species.
