Frederick, MD – Retired Frederick Police Officer Wade Millard has launched 'Fresh Step Laundry,' a mobile service providing free laundry to the unhoused. Millard, a veteran officer, was inspired after seeing people wash clothes in a creek. 'If there was something mobile, would you use it, and that was my first yes,' he stated. The initiative aims to restore dignity and confidence. Lisa Davis, a recipient, shared, 'He's an amazing man, and what he's doing is absolutely helping everyone here.' Davis, who once went weeks without clean clothes, now has a full-time job and is saving for housing. The service, operating from a donated bus, is free, with Millard volunteering his time. He believes retirement is a chance for a new cycle of service, helping people 'bounce back' and regain deserved confidence.
