Belarus Pioneers Biodegradable Cups: A Green Revolution in Packaging
Minsk, Belarus – Belarusian scientists have made a significant breakthrough in eco-friendly packaging. They've developed biodegradable disposable cups made from cellulose and coated with polylactide, a material derived from lactic acid. This creates a water and grease resistant cup that is completely compostable. "The process is complex," explains Svetlana Lemeshonok, a research associate at the Institute of Chemistry of New Materials, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. "It involves careful selection of cellulose and precise application of the polylactide coating." Alexander Rogachev, director of the institute, adds, "Our main goal was biodegradability and creating a high-quality packaging material." The first batch of these cups is already in production, and future plans include mass production of other biodegradable packaging options. This initiative addresses growing global concerns about plastic pollution and offers a sustainable alternative.
