MP Proposes Monthly KWSP Pensions Protected Against Inflation

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – During a recent parliamentary debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), YB Dato' Indera Mohd Shahar Abdullah, the Member of Parliament for Paya Besar, proposed that the government consider implementing monthly pension payments through the Employees Provident Fund (KWSP). In his address, YB Shahar Abdullah highlighted two key points. Firstly, he asserted that the withdrawal of retirement savings should not be mandatory, especially given the existing annuity options within the KWSP framework. Secondly, he stressed that if the monthly annuity proposal were to be expanded or become the primary method of payment, it must be safeguarded against inflation. This would necessitate periodic reviews and adjustments to the pension payment structure to align with current living costs. The Member of Parliament expressed his hope that the government would adopt a phased, flexible, and choice-based approach, ensuring that any new scheme provides effective long-term protection for the citizens.
