MINDEN, Louisiana – A set of eight historic apartments in Minden, once abandoned and dilapidated, have been meticulously restored and transformed into a vibrant boutique short-term rental complex. The ambitious renovation project, spearheaded by local entrepreneur Sara McDaniel, took 18 months to complete, breathing new life into structures originally built in 1931. The apartments, which had been vacant since the 1980s, presented significant challenges, including extensive damage, asbestos, and lead paint. "It was the scariest thing I've ever done in my life," McDaniel stated, reflecting on the initial state of the properties. Despite the daunting task, a team of over 100 people, including numerous subcontractors, worked to strip the buildings down to their studs, replacing roofs, stucco, windows, and all interior elements. Each of the eight villas has been uniquely designed, fulfilling what McDaniel described as her "little girl playhouse dreams." The project not only preserved a historically significant structure but also contributed substantially to the local economy by employing four women and numerous subcontractors, and generating sales and occupancy taxes. The newly revitalized properties are now available for booking at mindenstays.com, offering a unique stay experience in Minden.
