Detroit Woman Removed From Virtual Court for Making Sandwich
A Detroit woman's Zoom court appearance took an unexpected turn when she was removed from the session for making a sandwich while on camera. The incident occurred during a hearing at the 36th District Court in Detroit, Michigan. The woman, identified as Asja Outerbridge, was reportedly late for the hearing. "I have a paper right here that shows my court started at 1 o'clock," she stated, displaying a document. However, the judge, Sean Perkins, pointed out that the hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m. Outerbridge explained that she was making a sandwich for her sick daughter. "My daughter is sick. I had to keep her home from school. I'm just trying to feed her," she said. Judge Perkins, while expressing sympathy for her situation, maintained that her behavior and attire were inappropriate for a court proceeding. The incident underscores the challenges of conducting legal proceedings remotely and the importance of adhering to court protocols, even in virtual settings. The case highlights the need for clear communication and understanding between participants in virtual court hearings.
