South Bermondsey, London – A significant flood struck Ilderton Road in Bermondsey early this morning, caused by a burst mains water pipe. The incident, which occurred shortly after 4 AM, resulted in substantial disruption and damage across the area. Water was observed gushing down the street, submerging parts of the road and affecting local infrastructure. Sections of Ilderton Road were left destroyed, covered in debris and mud. Local residents expressed shock at the scale of the flooding, noting that such an event has rarely occurred in the area. Emergency services responded swiftly, with the Fire Brigade evacuating 27 people from their homes. Thousands more across South London are believed to be affected by the incident. The flood also led to the closure of Ilderton Primary School and several local businesses, including a Greggs outlet. Thames Water is currently on site, working with contractors to clear the road and ensure the water is not toxic. Efforts are underway to restore normalcy, though it is estimated that it may take up to 72 hours for everything to return to pre-flood conditions. Traffic has been building up, further impacting local commutes.
