Volunteers Tackle Heavy Work and Enjoy Animal Encounters at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo
Bridgeport, CT – A group of dedicated volunteers recently spent a day contributing to the upkeep and enhancement of Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo. The team engaged in physically demanding tasks, including the arduous process of moving numerous 50-pound sandbags and transporting wooden planks to various locations within the zoo grounds. Despite the strenuous work under the summer sun, volunteers found moments to appreciate the zoo's inhabitants. They were observed interacting with animals such as a cougar, a pig, a bear, a bison, otters, and a leopard. The day also included lighter activities, with the group enjoying a ride on the zoo's carousel. One volunteer remarked on the intensity of the work, noting, "It's sweating so bad and my eyeball is my mascara running. I should put on waterproof." Another, seemingly exhausted but in good spirits, exclaimed, "Dehydrated, tired of this shit," while resting on the ground. The volunteering effort highlights the ongoing commitment required to maintain zoo facilities and ensure animal welfare.
