Artists Weigh In: Is a Backflip Essential for Music Industry Success?

At the recent Primavera Sound festival, various artists were posed a unique question: "How important is being able to do a backflip in the music industry today?" The responses offered a humorous and insightful look into the industry's evolving demands. Isabella Lovestory stated, "I think being able to do a backflip in the music industry nowadays is absolutely not necessary and must be avoided at all times." She later joked about her "fat ass" preventing her from doing one. Members of Chat Pile shared their thoughts. One member admitted, "I can't do a backflip, can you?" while another added, "If I could do one, I'd probably be backflipping all through Primavera." They also discussed a popular artist, noting, "I don't hate him though, I don't love him either." Magdalena Bay confessed, "Couldn't be me. I'm not agile or strong enough." She hoped it wasn't important, representing artists who can't flip. This Is Lorelei offered a more pragmatic view: "I think if I were able to do a backflip, I would probably be more successful than I am. That's my honest take." However, he questioned whether he would choose to do one, suggesting it might define an artist too much. Waxahatchee laughed, "I think being able to do a backflip appears to be like pretty important unfortunately. I'm not that acrobatic, but uh, respect." The Hard Quartet members had mixed opinions, with one saying it's "extremely important" and "essential." Momma chimed in, noting, "There's one person who has it covered right now, but I mean, we could have more, I guess." One member clarified, "He's doing front flips," to which another responded, "Front flips are harder though." They concluded by asking if the person could do a handstand again. The interviews highlight the playful side of artists and the sometimes absurd questions they face, all while touching upon the perceived need for unique performance elements in today's music scene.
