Bucharest Cherry Festival: A Sweet Success Despite the Odds
Bucharest Cherry Festival: Sweet Success Despite Spring's Challenges Bucharest hosted its annual Cherry Festival, drawing large crowds to Izvor Park. Farmers from Vrancea and Iași brought tons of cherries, creating a vibrant market atmosphere. The festival provided a much-needed boost to local farmers, who faced challenges from poor spring weather that affected their harvest. "We brought about five tons of cherries," said one farmer. The bad weather "compromised a part of the harvest," leading to higher prices. Cherries sold for 25-40 lei per kilogram, comparable to prices in Greece and even more expensive than in Portugal. Despite the challenges, the festival was a success, with many attendees enjoying the abundance of fresh cherries and related products like jams and langos. The positive energy and community spirit made the festival a memorable event, showcasing the resilience of Romanian farmers and the enduring appeal of fresh, local produce.
