C'est quoi ce nouveau défi Tiktok débile qui peut coûter la vie à votre ado ?
La tendance du “saupoudrage” sur TikTok inquiète : des ados inhalent des produits ménagers, au risque de graves séquelles, voire de mourir.
TEMPE, Arizona – A 19-year-old Arizona woman, Renna O'Rourke, has tragically died after engaging in a dangerous social media trend known as 'dusting.' The trend involves inhaling computer cleaning spray to achieve a temporary euphoric state, a practice that medical experts warn can be fatal. Renna's parents, Dana and Aaron O'Rourke, shared their heartbreak, stating, "She was vivacious and caring and loyal. She always said, 'Yeah, you know, I'm going to be famous, Dad. Just you watch, I'm going to be famous.'" They never imagined their daughter's life would be cut short by such a dangerous act. Dr. Randy Weisman, who leads the ICU at HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center, explained the severe physiological impact of dusting. "When they inhale these chemicals and the gas, it'll actually replace the oxygen within their lungs and within the rest of their body," he said. This can lead to irreversible damage, including liver failure, heart failure, and lung disease, often resulting in sudden death. Dr. Weisman noted that Renna is not the only teenager to have succumbed to this disorder. Renna spent seven days in the ICU after the incident, never regaining consciousness, before ultimately dying from Sudden Sniffing Death Syndrome. Despite their profound grief, the O'Rourke family is finding comfort in knowing Renna was able to help others through organ donation. Dana O'Rourke issued a poignant message to parents: "Search their rooms. Don't trust. And that sounds horrible, but it could save their life." She emphasized that these products are odorless, affordable, and easily accessible, and do not show up on typical drug tests, making them particularly insidious. News anchor Micaela Marshall highlighted that dusting, also known as 'chroming' or 'huffing,' is distinct from 'whippets' but equally unsafe. Both medical professionals and the grieving family strongly encourage open conversations between parents and children about the dangers of abusing common household products.
