Nationwide Raids Target Ride-Sharing Companies in Major Tax Evasion Probe
BUCHAREST, Romania – Law enforcement authorities have executed 19 domestic search warrants and three arrest warrants across seven Romanian counties, including Timiș, Arad, Bihor, Sibiu, Brașov, Constanța, and Galați, in a large-scale operation targeting ride-sharing companies. The ongoing investigation focuses on allegations of tax evasion. According to officials, the companies under scrutiny are suspected of offering ride-sharing transport services between 2021 and 2024 without properly registering employees, using electronic cash registers, or declaring intra-community service acquisitions. These alleged practices allowed them to evade significant tax payments by not registering and declaring their income. The estimated financial damage caused by these illicit activities is reported to be over 3 million lei. The raids aim to gather further evidence and bring those responsible to justice.
