A tragic incident in 2018 led to a Malaysian mother, Cikda, developing a severe mental disorder, profoundly impacting her family. Cikda, now 39, was a dedicated dental nurse who, even while pregnant, resorted to climbing coconut trees to cover bank loans. A fall from a tree during her postpartum period resulted in a coma, from which she awoke with an unstable emotional state, sometimes forgetting her seven children. Her eldest daughter, 23-year-old Ati, who works at Harrogate Malaysia, shared her family's plight. Ati explained that despite repeated attempts by her and her siblings to have their mother live with them, Cikda chooses to reside alone in the forest. This decision stems from her fear of verbally hurting her children during her mental breakdowns. Ati and her siblings continue to provide financial support for food, but Cikda insists on working and staying active to prevent her condition from worsening. Four of Cikda's younger children are currently under the care of the Social Welfare Department (JKM) due to the family's complex circumstances, including an irresponsible father who remains legally married to Cikda but offers no support. The family hopes for understanding and an end to negative public comments surrounding their difficult situation.
