The individual, whose identity has not been publicly released, managed to accumulate 700,000 RON (approximately $150,000 USD) by repeatedly recycling the same plastic bottle. According to Larisa Ratiu, a reporter for NewsTime, "He knew exactly how the machines worked and exploited a loophole in the system." The scam involved over 1.4 million PET bottles, recycled over several months. Police raided the man's home, confiscating a large number of bottles and the cash he obtained.
