Paris, France – Two Australian travelers, Jane Lu and Jess, have shared a harrowing account of their recent business trip to Paris, which quickly descended into a series of unfortunate events, including a significant financial scam. The ordeal began even before their arrival, when Jane Lu faced the risk of being denied boarding for her 30-hour flight due to a water-damaged passport. After successfully navigating that hurdle, the pair arrived in Paris only to discover their pre-booked accommodation, secured through Booking.com, was non-existent. According to their account, they were informed at a key collection point that the apartment they had paid for was not a real listing. This left them stranded and attempting to contact Booking.com for over three hours, a challenge exacerbated by their Australian phone numbers not working for French customer service lines. The travelers revealed they had paid a deposit and a total of €2,000 to the scammer. While they eventually managed to find new accommodation, the incident highlights the risks associated with online travel bookings and the importance of verifying details, especially after long journeys. The pair expressed their determination to resolve the financial loss incurred during what they described as a 'cursed' trip.
