
GJA Condemns Attack on Joy News Reporter in Accra
Accra, Ghana - June 10, 2025: The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has strongly condemned the attack on Joy News reporter Latif Idrisu by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) outside the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) headquarters. The incident occurred during a demonstration. GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwomfour stated, "This egregious act of violence against a journalist in the line of duty is a direct assault on press freedom and democratic principles." Idrisu sustained injuries during the attack. He was reportedly hit with stones and a rubber band. Dwomfour also called for the release of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, who was detained at EOCO. The GJA is working to ensure the safety of journalists and the protection of press freedom in Ghana. The police are investigating the attack.
