Lima, Peru – Despite a tsunami alert issued by the Peruvian Navy, numerous citizens were observed on the beaches of Costa Verde, including areas like San Miguel, Magdalena, San Isidro, Barranco, and Chorrillos. The alert was a precautionary measure following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Russia. Early this morning, individuals were seen engaging in various activities such as training, walking, and even entering the sea. In Agua Dulce, two young people admitted to arriving at dawn to run, fully aware that the waves were unusually high. At that time, there was no visible police or security presence to enforce evacuation or prevent access to the beaches. It was only after the diffusion of a report on the situation that municipal agents arrived to clear the beachgoers. The Navy has reiterated its critical warning, emphasizing that evacuation should commence three hours prior to the anticipated impact of tsunami waves, underscoring that the arrival of these waves is not a mere supposition but a certainty.
