Kenyan Activists Challenge Ruto's Claims on Abduction Cases
Kenyan Activist Group Challenges President Ruto's Claims on Abduction Cases NAIROBI, Kenya – A Kenyan activist group, Vocal Africa, is publicly challenging President William Ruto's recent assertion that all individuals abducted during the June 2024 protests have been reunited with their families. Vocal Africa maintains that at least five cases remain unresolved, prompting a call for a meeting with the president. "President Ruto's statement is a slap in the face to families still searching for their missing loved ones," said Hussein Khalid of Vocal Africa. The group has documented several cases, including that of Emmanuel Mukuria, who disappeared on June 25th, 2024, in Githurai. They also highlight the cases of Dennis Chege and Peter Macharia, both last seen on June 25th, 2024, in Nairobi's Central Business District, and Martin Mbishi and Kalani Muema, who disappeared on December 17th, 2024, in Mololongo. Vocal Africa's statement comes after a report released last week by the human rights group Missing Voices detailed 55 unresolved cases. The group is demanding accountability and a meeting with President Ruto to address the ongoing concerns. The video accompanying this report shows footage of the protests and news coverage of the president's statement, underscoring the seriousness of the situation and the ongoing search for justice by the affected families.
