Natural Building Enthusiast Demonstrates Innovative Mud Home Construction A recent online video by natural living advocate Kristina 🌱Turiya, known as @turiya_natural_living, has drawn significant attention for its demonstration of the "quincha liviana" or "slip straw" building technique. The Harvard/MIT graduate and self-described rocket scientist showcased the construction of her guest home using this sustainable method, which she asserts offers superior benefits over traditional alternatives. The video details the process, beginning with the erection of a lightweight bamboo frame. This frame is then infilled with a unique mixture of straw and clay water that has been fermented for at least 24 hours. "It's super lightweight," Turiya explains, "it's really different than adobe or a cob." She further elaborated on the efficiency of the method, stating, "It's a lot quicker than Adobe because you can essentially build up a whole wall within a single day." Turiya also emphasized the material's insulating properties. "You get better insulation than with cob, adobe, or any other modern material," she claimed. The completed walls, currently a network of straw and clay, are slated to receive a final clay plaster finish. The creator is also offering workshops for those interested in learning more about this and other natural building techniques.
