Moldovan Towns Face Steep Water Bill Hikes
Moldova Raises Water and Sewage Tariffs in Three Towns Residents of Cocieri, Cainari, and Causeni face significantly higher water and sewage bills following a recent decision by the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NARE). The new tariffs, effective immediately, have sparked concern among residents already grappling with rising living costs. In Cocieri, the price of technical water has increased by 4.70 lei per cubic meter, reaching 14.71 lei. Sewage costs have risen by 1.09 lei, now costing 28.34 lei per cubic meter. "This increase is a heavy burden on our families," said one Cocieri resident. Cainari and Causeni have seen similar increases, with the cost of water and sewage services rising substantially in each location. The NARE justified the increases by citing the need to modernize infrastructure and improve water services. However, residents argue that the significant price hikes are unaffordable and demand transparency regarding the allocation of funds. The situation highlights the challenges faced by Moldovan communities in managing essential services amidst economic uncertainty. Further investigation is needed to fully understand the long-term impact of these price increases on the affected populations.
