Sarawak's KUTS Phase 1 Project Behind Schedule: Minister Reveals Update

KUCHING, SARAWAK, MALAYSIA – May 22, 2025 – The Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Phase 1 project, a key infrastructure development in Sarawak, is currently 29.89 percent complete, according to Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil. This figure, released in April 2025, reveals a delay in the project's timeline. "As of April 2025, the overall progress of the KUTS Phase 1 project stands at 29.89 percent," Datuk Dr Susil stated. This is below the initially targeted completion rate, resulting in a setback. The minister attributed the delay to construction challenges. Despite the delay, the project is expected to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2026. The remaining phases will be implemented in stages, ensuring the project's successful completion and improving Kuching's urban transportation.
