Sarawak Prioritizes Land Grants and Parliament Seats in MA63 Negotiations KUCHING, SARAWAK—The Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63) negotiations continue to be a focal point in Sarawak, with two key demands taking precedence. Deputy Premier Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Said Aman Ghazali recently stated that expediting discussions on land grants is crucial. "One of the priorities now is to speed up the discussions on land grants," she said, referring to the matter under item 112D of the Federal Constitution. In addition to land rights, Sarawak is also pushing for an increase in the number of seats in the state parliament. The Deputy Premier highlighted Sarawak's consistent efforts in raising these issues through formal meetings and negotiation platforms, including the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council meetings. This demonstrates Sarawak's commitment to securing its rights and interests within the federation. The ongoing negotiations reflect Sarawak's determination to address historical imbalances and ensure a more equitable partnership within Malaysia. The focus on these two key demands signals a significant step towards achieving a more balanced and just future for the state.
