Sarawak's SMM2H Program Booms: Thousands of Applications Approved

Sarawak's SMM2H Program Sees Surge in Applications: Over 3,000 Approved Since 2007 KUCHING, SARAWAK – In a significant development for Sarawak's economy, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, revealed that 3,141 applications for the Sarawak Malaysia My Second Home (SMM2H) program have been approved since its launch in January 2007. This figure includes 265 approvals in the first five months of 2025 alone. "Since its inception, the program has seen a significant increase in successful applications," Dato Sri Abdul Karim stated during a recent press conference. "This reflects the growing appeal of Sarawak as a desirable location for retirement and long-term stays." The minister also highlighted the considerable economic impact of the program. The fixed deposit placements from approved applicants amounted to RM111.6 million in 2024 and RM65.3 million in the first five months of 2025. This influx of investment contributes significantly to Sarawak's economic growth. China leads the way in the number of successful applicants, followed by the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the United States. The program's success underscores Sarawak's attractiveness as a retirement destination and the effectiveness of its initiative to attract foreign investment.
