Sarawak's Affordable Housing Schemes: A Commitment to its People
Sarawak's SPS and SPK Schemes: Affordable Housing for Low-Income Families The Sarawak state government has demonstrated a strong commitment to providing affordable housing for its low-income citizens through two key initiatives: the Skim Penempatan Semula (SPS) and the Skim Pembesaran Kampung (SPK). Launched in 2018, these schemes have been instrumental in improving the living conditions of many families. The SPS and SPK initiatives go beyond simply providing land; they include crucial infrastructure development. This includes road construction, water reticulation systems, and electricity provision, ensuring that families have access to essential services. "This is a commitment and concern of the Sarawak government toward low-income people who need land to build houses," stated Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Sarawak's Deputy Premier and Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources II. The cost of each lot averages RM150,000, with a land premium not exceeding RM2,500. Payments are structured as annual installments over 10 years, making homeownership more attainable for low-income families. These schemes represent a significant step towards improving the quality of life for many in Sarawak.
