Valentino Faces Labor Exploitation Scandal in Italy A recent court ruling in Italy has exposed serious labor exploitation within the supply chain of the luxury brand Valentino. A Chinese subcontractor, Bags Milano, was found to have employed workers without contracts, forcing them to live and work at the factory around the clock to meet high production demands. The workers were paid extremely low wages, earning around 4000 euros per month for making 4000 bags that retail for 2000 euros each. "Workers were made to sleep in the workplace in order to have manpower available 24 hours a day," according to the court ruling. This highlights the systemic issues within the fashion industry's global supply chains and raises serious questions about corporate responsibility. While Bags Milano is under criminal investigation, Valentino, while aware of the situation, is currently only under investigation and not facing criminal charges. This case underscores the need for greater transparency and accountability in the luxury fashion industry, to ensure ethical labor practices throughout the entire supply chain. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of fast fashion and the urgent need for ethical sourcing and production.
