Santa Cruz Winter Holidays: Two or Three Weeks? Measles Outbreak Prompts Early Break
SANTA CRUZ, Bolivia – Schoolchildren in Santa Cruz began their winter holidays early this year, on June 30th, amidst a rising number of measles cases in the region. The Ministry of Education has confirmed that the initial period for these holidays will be two weeks, a decision that has prompted questions among parents regarding a potential extension. Vice Minister of Education, Eudal Tejerina, addressed the public's concerns, explaining that while the current duration is set at two weeks, the possibility of extending the break is under continuous evaluation. "The decision will depend on how the health emergency evolves in the department," Tejerina stated, emphasizing that the government's primary concern is the health and well-being of the children. In light of the health situation, virtual classes were implemented this week as a preventive measure, allowing students to continue their education remotely while minimizing potential exposure. This contrasts with other regions across Bolivia, where winter holidays are scheduled to commence later, from July 7th to July 18th. The authorities in Santa Cruz remain vigilant, monitoring the measles outbreak to make informed decisions that prioritize public health.
