Bolivia: Chicken Price Unlikely to Return to Bs 14, Vice Minister Explains Cost Factors

La Paz, Bolivia – The Vice Minister of Consumer Defense, Jorge Silva, has stated that the price of chicken in Bolivia will not drop back to 14 Bolivianos per kilogram. According to Silva, the current production costs make a return to that price point practically impossible.During recent blockades, the price of a kilogram of chicken reportedly surged to 80 Bolivianos in markets in La Paz and Cochabamba. Currently, the price hovers between 21 and 22 Bolivianos.Silva explained that the cost of importing baby chicks has doubled due to the parallel dollar exchange rate, significantly impacting overall production expenses. He anticipates that with clear roads and a normalized supply of diesel, the price of chicken should stabilize around 18.50 Bolivianos per kilogram, reflecting its real cost.
