Lima, Peru – César Apolinario, a Peruvian man, is seeking justice after a routine knee surgery in 2022 allegedly led to the amputation of all four of his limbs. Apolinario, who initially entered the clinic walking for a meniscus fissure procedure, claims medical negligence resulted in severe complications. According to a forensic report, the initial issue stemmed from a poorly administered epidural, which caused damage to his spinal cord. This resulted in a loss of sensation in his legs and subsequent urinary complications. Following this, Apolinario contracted a severe urinary infection caused by a resistant bacterium. Despite two months of hospitalization, his condition worsened significantly. By 2024, doctors informed him that the infections had progressed to necrosis in his arms and legs, necessitating the amputation of all four limbs to save his life. Apolinario asserts that his devastating outcome is a direct result of medical negligence and has filed a lawsuit against the clinic where the surgery was performed. The medical center, however, denies any error, stating that the complications were an adverse reaction to medications and prolonged use of catheters. The legal battle is ongoing as Apolinario continues his fight for accountability.
