La Paz, Bolivia – A pivotal meeting convened by Bolivia's ruling Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) party, aimed at forging a unified front among left-wing political factions for the 2025 presidential elections, concluded without the attendance of several key invited figures. Andrónico Rodríguez and Eva Copa, prominent political personalities, along with supporters of former President Evo Morales (Evistas), were notably absent from the gathering. The meeting, called by MAS and President Luis Arce, sought to consolidate a "popular bloc" ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle. Despite the significant absences, the MAS leadership proceeded with the session. Grover García, President of MAS, stated, "As the national leadership of MAS, we have convened this meeting to seek a historic unity of left-wing political parties." He added, "We have been waiting in our offices for this meeting of unity. We are fulfilling the demand, the suggestion of many militants and sympathizers of left-wing political movements."The meeting ultimately saw participation from members of the defunct PSU and a representative from the Popular Alliance. García emphasized that there is still time for unity before the elections, stating, "Many have said it's too late. We have time before going to vote, but we will not wait until the last moment." The outcome highlights ongoing internal divisions within the broader left-wing political landscape in Bolivia as the country approaches a critical election year.
