US-Mexico Border Sees Dramatic Drop in Illegal Crossings
The U.S.-Mexico border, once a scene of a major migrant crisis, is now significantly quieter. Illegal crossings have plummeted, according to Border Patrol Agent Claudio Herrera, who stated, "So at the highest level, point in time, I'm talking about fiscal year 2023, 2024, we were averaging 2,700 individuals a day. Right now, just to give you a comparison, we're averaging between 60 and 70 individuals." This dramatic decrease follows policy changes under the Biden administration restricting asylum access and the creation of a new military zone along the border under the Trump administration. The deployment of nearly 7,000 military personnel and Stryker vehicles has fortified the border, resulting in a marked reduction in illegal crossings. The change is visible in the video's footage, showing a stark contrast between past images of crowded border areas and the current quiet scene. This transformation signifies a shift in the dynamics of the border region, though the long-term implications remain to be seen.
