Makhnovichi Village, Salihorsk District, Minsk Region – Residents of Makhnovichi village have issued a heartfelt appeal to President Alexander Lukashenka and other government officials regarding the impending closure of their only local shop. The community, comprising approximately 150 permanent residents and up to 250 during the summer, gathered in front of the "Magazin" building to voice their profound concerns. A spokesperson for the villagers, addressing the camera, explained that the closure of the shop represents a critical blow to their rural way of life. "This problem is very important, very painful for us," she stated, emphasizing that the news of the shop's liquidation came "like a bolt from the blue." The residents highlighted a pattern of diminishing services in their village over the past two decades. They recounted the prior closures of the collective farm (kolkhoz), the school, the post office, the kindergarten, and the village club, noting that even agricultural lands were liquidated. Each closure, they explained, was met with an understanding from the community, but the shop's impending closure feels like "the last straw." The proposed alternative, a mobile shop, is deemed insufficient by the villagers due to past negative experiences. "We know what that is like," the spokesperson remarked, indicating that such solutions have proven inadequate for their needs. The community has already submitted written appeals to the Chairman of the Salihorsk District Executive Committee, Anatoly Ladyga, and the Chairman of the Salihorsk District Council of Deputies, Alla Koleeva. They also verbally addressed the district council deputy, Vladimir Kazak. However, due to the late notification of the shop's closure, they have not yet received an official written response. "We are absolutely independent, working on pure enthusiasm, on a voluntary basis, conducting numerous public events," the spokesperson affirmed, highlighting the community's self-sufficiency. "We don't ask for anything from anyone. We organize many subbotniks (voluntary community workdays) and beautify our village." The villagers expressed their desperation, likening their situation to "clutching at straws like a drowning man." They earnestly hope that their plea will be heard and that the authorities will intervene to prevent the loss of their last essential service, which they describe not merely as a problem, but as a "cry for help."
