Beyond the Crown: Tijuana's Ariel Cosplayer Reveals Dedication and Challenges
Tijuana, Mexico - A local cosplayer, known for her captivating portrayal of Disney's Princess Ariel, recently shared her personal journey and the intricacies of her craft in an impromptu interview. Dressed in Ariel's iconic wedding gown, the cosplayer, who identified herself as Gina, revealed that her elaborate costume had unfortunately torn, preventing her from attending a scheduled event. During the conversation, Gina accepted an offer of 1000 Mexican pesos to remove her full Ariel makeup on camera. She explained the significant time and financial investment involved in her transformations, noting that while some items like false eyelashes are affordable, other elements such as specialized lipsticks and eyeshadow palettes can be quite costly. Gina, who also works as a character animator for parties, shared that her passion for cosplay began at a young age. "I started with things I had in my closet, things my mom had," she recounted. She diligently saved her allowance from high school to purchase wigs and other costume components. She also highlighted the various skills she had to master, including wig styling, makeup artistry, and even the challenging process of inserting and removing contact lenses. "It's quite complicated," she admitted, reflecting on the learning curve. She emphasized that her motivation stems from the joy of bringing beloved characters to life and the positive interactions she has with fans, despite facing occasional criticism.
