Mushroom enthusiasts are urged to exercise caution when foraging, as a seemingly harmless find could spoil an entire culinary creation. A recent video from a mushroom picker in Belarus highlights the deceptive nature of the 'false boletus' (Tylopilus felleus), locally known as 'горчак'. The video showcases a mushroom strikingly similar in appearance to the coveted porcini. However, the narrator, an experienced mushroom hunter, quickly identifies it as its bitter counterpart. "It's not poisonous, but it's very dangerous," the narrator explains, demonstrating the mushroom's characteristics, including a reddish stem with a distinct net pattern and a slightly pinkish underside. "Just one of these can ruin an entire pot of mushrooms because its cap is incredibly bitter," the narrator warns. While some foragers might be tempted to taste a small piece to confirm its identity, the video advises against this practice in the forest due to hygiene concerns. The mushroom was ultimately returned to its natural environment, serving as a reminder for others to carefully inspect their finds before adding them to their basket.
