Ghana Tackles High Data Costs: Minister Unveils Roadmap for Price Reduction
Ghana's Minister of Communication, Sam George, recently addressed concerns regarding the high cost of data in the country. He announced the formation of a committee to create a roadmap for data price reduction by the end of the year. The committee, which includes representatives from telecom companies, regulators, and other stakeholders, aims to find a sustainable solution that balances the needs of businesses and consumers. "I will not act arbitrarily," Sam George stated, emphasizing a consultative approach. "What I will do is to consult with industry, consult with stakeholders, and take decisions that protect investment in Ghana, but also ensure that Ghanaian customers and citizens have the best quality of service and get the best price for the services that they pay for." This initiative reflects the government's commitment to addressing affordability concerns and improving access to essential digital services in Ghana. The committee's roadmap is expected to outline specific steps and timelines for achieving data price reduction within the year.
