In a recent interview, veteran director Benedicte Delmas, who started her career as an actress 20 years ago, shed light on common misconceptions surrounding the film industry. Delmas addressed several prevalent clichés, offering a candid look into the realities of her profession. Responding to the provocative question, "Do they all take C?", Delmas firmly stated, "No, obviously not." She also clarified her stance on blockbusters, admitting, "I don't like them too much." When asked if directors abuse their authority on set, she conceded, "It can happen." However, she explained that shouting during outdoor shoots is often necessary for communication, "When we shoot outdoors, we shout a lot, but it's to be heard, not because we're contrary." Delmas also dispelled the notion that arthouse films are exclusively about "naked characters, ASMR dialogue, in black and white," simply stating, "Not just." Regarding the need for numerous short films to break into cinema, she advised, "It's better to make two good short films than 500 bad ones." She emphasized that contacts are not the only path to success for financing a feature film, asserting, "With a good script, anything is possible." Lastly, on the topic of earnings, Delmas revealed that a director needs to earn "1500€ per week gross" when working, acknowledging that work is not year-round.
