Cabárceno Natural Park has recently become the scene of public safety concerns after a video surfaced showing visitors, including a child, venturing onto an unsecured cliff face directly overlooking a wolf enclosure. The video, widely shared online, depicts individuals in close proximity to the habitat of a wolf, raising alarms about potential accidents. The author of the video stated, "A single misstep, and you fall directly into the wolf enclosure." This incident has reignited discussions about visitor safety protocols and animal welfare at the park. Adding to the controversy, the video also brought to light a tragic event from 2014, where eight adult wolves were reportedly sacrificed at Cabárceno. According to the park, this was a necessary conservation measure, carried out with veterinary criteria and anesthesia, following a fight that resulted in the deaths of two other adult wolves and three cubs. However, animal welfare organizations, such as Coalición InfoZoos, denounced the action as "poor management" and a "massacre," alleging that the wolves were shot. This historical context further fuels the debate surrounding the park's animal management policies and the balance between conservation and ethical considerations.
