New Orleans Jailbreak: Maintenance Worker Arrested, Inmates Still at Large
New Orleans Jailbreak: Maintenance Worker Arrested for Allegedly Assisting Escape New Orleans, LA – A maintenance worker at the Orleans Parish Justice Center has been arrested and charged with assisting in the escape of ten inmates last week. Sterling Williams, 33, was booked into jail Tuesday morning, according to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill. The escape occurred around 1 a.m. Friday. Authorities say Williams admitted to turning off the water to the cell block, creating an opportunity for the inmates to escape through a hole they created in the wall behind the toilet. "Ten violent offenders don't make their way into a pod made for two," Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams said in an interview. "And make good their escape through concrete, rebar, and barbed wire without there being some sort of inside assistance." At least one inmate, 21-year-old Gary C. Price, has been apprehended. His capture was caught on home security video. The New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick stated that the remaining fugitives are considered very dangerous and potentially armed. Four additional jail employees have been suspended during the ongoing investigation. The incident highlights serious security concerns at the jail.
