Osh Market Cafes Temporarily Closed After Mayor's Inspection

Bishkek Mayor Orders Closure of Osh Market Cafes Due to Unsanitary Conditions Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – In a surprise inspection on June 5th, 2025, Bishkek Mayor Aybek Junushaliev ordered the temporary closure of several cafes operating around Osh market. The mayor cited numerous violations of sanitary norms, including improper food handling and storage. "The conditions in some of these establishments were simply unacceptable," Junushaliev stated during the inspection, pointing to overflowing bins and unclean kitchen areas. One cafe owner, who wished to remain anonymous, commented, "We are trying our best, but it's difficult to maintain high standards with the limited resources we have." The mayor also criticized the local sanitary-epidemiological department for insufficient oversight. The temporary closures are intended to allow for thorough cleaning and improvements to meet sanitary standards. The city administration is working with cafe owners to ensure swift compliance and reopening.
