Bali Tourist Exposes Money Exchange Scam, Recovers Missing Funds Kuta, Bali – A recent incident in Kuta, Bali, has brought to light a persistent money exchange scam, with a tourist successfully confronting an alleged perpetrator and recovering missing funds. The incident, documented in a viral video, serves as a stark warning to travelers. The tourist, who wishes to remain anonymous, visited a money exchange kiosk on the main strip in Kuta. After exchanging currency, they initially counted their money, confirming the correct amount. However, they allege that the employee then took the money back, recounted it, and subtly dropped 600,000 Indonesian Rupiah (approximately $40 USD) behind the counter. Upon realizing the discrepancy later at their hotel, the tourist returned to the kiosk and confronted the employee, recording the interaction. In the video, the tourist can be heard saying, "Excuse me, where's my money? My 600,000 you dropped inside." They further explained, "When we went back, he counted it again and 600 missing. Not fair. You did that. So where is it?" The employee initially appeared to deny the action but, under the pressure of being recorded, eventually returned the missing cash. This type of scam, often involving sleight of hand, is reportedly common in some tourist areas. Travelers are advised to be vigilant, count their money carefully, and avoid letting the exchanger recount it after the initial verification.
