CADIZ, Spain – A recent video circulating online has drawn attention to the significant issue of litter on Cadiz beaches, filmed at night following a busy summer day. The video features a local resident walking along the shoreline with his dog, systematically collecting various items of trash, including plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and discarded wet wipes. The resident expressed his dismay at the volume of waste left behind by beachgoers, stating, "I've been here for just five minutes, and you've seen everything I've found. I could spend hours here picking up the trash that humans leave." He highlighted the stark contrast between the human-generated waste and the behavior of his dog, humorously noting that his pet was "cleaner" than the people responsible for the mess. The video also serves as a call for more accommodating regulations regarding dog access to beaches, particularly during the summer months. The resident proposed the implementation of specific hours, such as early mornings (until 8 or 9 AM) and late evenings (from 9:30 or 10 PM), during which dogs could be allowed on the beach, provided they are on a leash. He emphasized that dog owners simply seek "hours for them to enjoy such a wonderful beach." The footage aims to spark a discussion on environmental responsibility and the potential for shared public spaces.
