Cloned Chips Fuel GNV Fraud, Endangering Lives in Peru
In a recent police operation in Lima, Peru, authorities uncovered a widespread scheme involving the illegal refueling of vehicles with expired GNV cylinders. The operation, conducted by the Peruvian National Police, targeted unlicensed drivers and individuals using cloned chips to bypass the system. "They were using chips that were cloned," stated a police officer involved in the raid. This allowed drivers to obtain GNV despite having overdue payments and inspections. This practice not only endangers the lives of passengers but also causes significant financial losses to the state. One driver, apprehended during the operation, was found to have a vehicle with a GNV cylinder that expired in 2022. The police confiscated numerous cloned chips and are currently investigating the extent of the network. This case highlights the urgent need for improved oversight and enforcement of GNV regulations in Peru to ensure public safety and prevent further financial losses to the state.
