An automotive expert from GT Automoción and Training Tech Academy has conducted a detailed review of BYD electric and hybrid vehicles, shedding light on their real-world performance and potential mechanical issues. The review, featuring a BYD Atto 3 owner, revealed significant discrepancies between advertised and actual battery range, with the owner reporting only 270 km compared to the promised 500 km. The mechanic highlighted several technical concerns during his inspection. The BYD Atto 3, with only 7,000 km, exhibited vibrations at speeds of 120-130 km/h, attributed to poorly balanced wheels requiring over 100 grams of lead weights. Furthermore, the brake discs showed signs of excessive heat, raising questions about their durability. For the BYD Seal, a plug-in hybrid, the owner reported consuming an entire tank of gasoline and charging the battery multiple times to cover just 1,300 km, far short of the advertised 1,080 km on a single charge. The expert noted that while the car's interior quality was commendable, the rear suspension design appeared minimalist and potentially fragile. The analysis also touched upon the battery degradation of a BYD Atto 3 with 87,000 km, showing a 4% reduction in capacity, which the mechanic considered normal for its age and usage, especially given the owner's consistent slow charging at home. The video emphasizes transparency, stating that the intention is to present "what is seen," not what one expects to hear, providing valuable insights for potential BYD buyers.
