Seville, Spain – A local mechanic, Juan José from Talleres Ebenezer, has shared insights on the popular Start-Stop feature in modern vehicles, suggesting that deactivating it could significantly benefit a car's engine and electrical system in the long run.In a recent video, Juan José demonstrated the simple action of pressing a button to disable the Start-Stop function, which automatically turns off the engine when the car is stationary and restarts it when the driver releases the brake or engages the clutch. While acknowledging that keeping the engine running might lead to a minimal increase in fuel consumption, particularly in urban environments, he emphasized the potential long-term damage to the engine. 'If you do this movement every time you start the car, what you're doing is deactivating the Start-Stop,' Juan José explained. 'This system, if you have it activated in the long term, the only thing it's going to do is damage your engine.' He elaborated that by keeping the engine constantly running, it maintains a much more stable state, ensuring better lubrication and cooling. Furthermore, the air conditioning system avoids voltage drops that occur during the frequent stopping and starting cycles. He also highlighted that the car's electrical units and overall electrical system would be much better preserved by avoiding these small voltage spikes. 'The engine will stay much more stable, it will have much better lubrication, much better cooling, the air conditioning won't have voltage drops between stopping and starting, and even the units and the car's electrical system will be much better preserved,' he stated. Juan José concluded by recommending deactivating the system for those who wish to maximize their car's mileage and lifespan, leaving the final decision to individual car owners.
