Fatal Police Chase in Moselle: Belgian Officer Among Two Dead in Cross-Border Incident
Moselle, France – A high-speed police pursuit originating in Belgium ended tragically in Moselle, France, on the night of Tuesday, June 24, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including a Belgian police officer. The incident began around 10:45 PM when a Belgian road police unit initiated a chase of a vehicle suspected of engaging in a "go fast" operation – a method used by drug traffickers involving high-speed transport to evade law enforcement. The pursuit crossed the border into France, continuing on a departmental road near Thionville. According to the gendarmerie, the pursued vehicle eventually stopped on a two-lane road near Angevillers, approximately 40 kilometers from the Belgian border. Its occupants exited the car and attempted to flee on foot. During the ensuing foot chase, an oncoming vehicle struck one of the fleeing occupants and a Belgian police officer. Both victims succumbed to their injuries. The Belgian federal police confirmed the death of their colleague, stating the officer died "during an intervention on the D14, just beyond the French border." The other occupant of the pursued vehicle was subsequently apprehended and placed in police custody. Investigations into the precise circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
