The incident, which unfolded in October 2025, highlights critical concerns regarding reproductive healthcare access and the potentially devastating consequences of medical delays. According to her testimony, on October 9, 2025, Catlife669 sought emergency care at Good Shepherd Hospital, presenting with symptoms she recognized from a previous ectopic pregnancy: severe bleeding, cramping, and pain radiating to her right shoulder. She explicitly informed medical staff of her history and her fear of a recurring ectopic pregnancy. However, the attending physician, after conducting an ultrasound and blood work that confirmed an ectopic pregnancy in her left fallopian tube, reportedly refused to administer methotrexate or perform a surgical abortion. The doctor cited a "1% chance of a viable pregnancy" and stated that she could not "in good faith" perform an abortion, also indicating it was against her practice. Feeling desperate and in increasing pain, Catlife669 was advised to go to Mercy Hospital, which subsequently informed her they did not have OB services and could not assist, directing her instead to Huntley Hospital, a Northwestern Medicine facility. Upon arrival at Huntley, an emergency room doctor, reviewing the same imaging from Good Shepherd, immediately questioned why she had not been given methotrexate. Catlife669 received the medication that evening. Tragically, the intervention came too late. A week later, her symptoms intensified, and further medical evaluation revealed that the methotrexate had not been effective. During an emergency surgical procedure, her left fallopian tube ruptured as she was being prepped for surgery, leading to its complete removal. This has rendered her unable to conceive naturally, a profound loss for which she now requires in-vitro fertilization (IVF). Expressing her deep emotional turmoil, Catlife669 stated, "I don't have words... I'm sad and I'm mad and I'm confused... How can you in good faith send me away knowing the risk of leaving an ectopic pregnancy in somebody's body without any type of medical intervention?" Her story underscores the urgent need for clear, consistent, and compassionate medical guidelines, particularly in time-sensitive and life-threatening situations like ectopic pregnancies, which can become fatal if not treated promptly.
