A resident of Polotsk, Belarus, has publicly voiced profound concerns regarding the state of pediatric healthcare in the region, following a distressing experience with her child's medical treatment. The woman, who recently relocated from Kursk, described a month-long ordeal after her child was diagnosed with elevated prolactin levels, necessitating urgent specialist consultation. Initially, she was informed that no pediatric endocrinologists were available in Polotsk, requiring a referral to Vitebsk. However, appointments there were unavailable until December due to both specialists being on training. Further complicating matters, her child, while hospitalized with bronchitis, required an ENT consultation, but the hospital in Polotsk reportedly lacked an ENT specialist, forcing the mother to transport her sick child externally. The situation escalated when the mother discovered, through her own inquiry, that paid endocrinology services were readily available in Novopolotsk. "Why couldn't I have been told this immediately?" she questioned, expressing frustration over the wasted time and emotional distress. This incident highlights potential systemic issues within regional healthcare access and specialist availability, prompting a call for public discussion on medical services for children in Polotsk, Novopolotsk, and surrounding areas.
